KARRAN, George V. Jr. 98, of South Tampa, was born in 1914, and passed away on March 6, 2013. He graduated from Clearwater High School & then the University of Florida '39. He worked as a civil engineer and was an Executive with Florida Steel Corp in Tampa. He was instrumental in the engineering design of the Gator Bowl, the Sunshine Skyway, and other landmark buildings. George was a member of St. Pete Yacht Club and Tampa Sailing Squadron, and a U.S. Sailing senior judge. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy SeaBees in the South Pacific. He was an avid ham radio operator, expert yachtsman, pilot, and loving husband and father. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 70 years; daughter, Kathryn Ludwig (George); son, Richard Karran (Stephanie); 2 grandchildren; and 5 great-grand-children.
