RENBARGER, James "Jim" 81 of Homosassa, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014. A St. Petersburg native, he was born May 23, 1933 to Luman & Gladys (Tharp) Renbarger, one of two children. Mr. Renbarger served as Chief Financial Officer of The Miami Herald until his retirement in 1990. He began his career at The St. Petersburg Times mail room while attending junior college and later held management positions in the accounting department. He earned a Poynter Scholarship which, combined with GI Bill, enabled him to attend college. Mr. Renbarger graduated with honors from the University of Florida earning a degree in accounting 1961. Prior to his career in newspapers, Mr. Renbarger worked at the Armed Forces Security Agency (NSA) in Washington D.C. He later served in the Korean War as CPL Military Police, U.S. Army. Jim graduated from St. Petersburg High in 1951. It was there he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Irene "Mike" (Hillengas) Renbarger. He was passionate about baseball, namely the St. Louis Cardinals and played fast pitch softball with the Tampa Bay (Clearwater) Bombers. Mr. Renbarger served on the board of The Children's Home Society of Miami and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables. He touched the lives of those he knew with his warm, humble and caring spirit. His "purpose" was his family and he dedicated himself to them. Mr. Renbarger moved to Homosassa from Miami in 1991. He is survived by his son, Stan A. Renbarger (wife Kathleen), Louisville, KY; son, Jay E. Renbarger, Jacksonville; daughter, Karen L. Renbarger, Hollywood, FL; granddaughter, Nicolette Renbarger, Jacksonville; grandchildren, Steven and Kristen Renbarger, Louisville, KY; sister-in-law, Lucille (Hille-ngas) Pewsey, Kingman, AZ; and niece, Lori Lefebvre, Phoenix, AZ. A Burial Service for Mr. (& Mrs.) Renbarger will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 10:30 am, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 4900 54th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33709, Division B, Section 1, with reception to follow.
