Malcolm Gene TAAFFE


TAAFFE, Malcolm Gene 56, of Tampa, passed peacefully April 5, 2014, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born Sept. 8, 1957, in The Bronx, NY, Malcolm graduated from the Ohio State University, where he was elected Student Government President. He went on to successful careers in investment banking, finance, and hotel property investment-management. Taaffe served as Board Member for the United Nations Association of the United States of America and Board Member for the Tampa Bay Committee on Foreign Relations. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as usher. Malcolm was a loving father who was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Mary Grace. Survived by son, Gene Taaffe; daughters, Olivia and Gloria Taaffe; his children's mother, Mary Bruce Johnston; mother, Theresa Taaffe; siblings, Francis Taaffe, Jean (Les) Jones, and Joseph (Jen) Taaffe; his fiancée, Amy Ruggiero, and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a large, loving extended family and many friends including Dr. Michael Chirichello and Terry McCarthy of TJM Properties. A celebration of Malcolm's life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tampa on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Arrangements entrusted to Brewer and Son's funeral Home
