BROWN, William C. of St. Petersburg, husband, father and retired chemist and laboratory manager, died May 9, 2013, in St. Petersburg. He was 85. Mr. Brown was born in Augusta, GA, on Sept. 17, 1927. He was a graduate of the Richmond Academy (high school) in that city, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree by the University of Georgia. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Brown was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant. In 1955, he married the former Peggy McArthur in Augusta. Following college and military service, Mr. Brown began his career as a chemist working for the DuPont Company at the Atomic Energy Commission's Savannah River Plant near Aiken, S.C. In 1958, he and his family moved to St. Petersburg when he took a job at the General Electric Company. He retired in 1989 as Manager of Laboratory Operations at G.E.'s Neutron Devices Department in Pinellas Park. Mr. Brown was an avid fisherman, golfer and baseball fan, and was active in the University of Georgia Alumni Association and the American Vacuum Society. He was a parishioner and vestryman at St. Vincent's Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. He and his wife loved entertaining in their home in St. Petersburg, and in the vacation home they maintained for years in the Great Smoky Mountains near Waynesville, N.C. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Peggy; his sons, Marc Brown and his wife, Jessica, of Newark, CA, and Stuart Brown and his wife, Terry, of St. Petersburg; daughter, Lisa Bigham and her husband Danny, of St. Petersburg; his sister, Mary LeBlanc of Tennessee; and by a granddaughter, Zoe. Following a family memorial service, Mr. Brown will be interred at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St Petersburg.
