Benton Rogers MURPHEY


MURPHEY, Benton Rogers passed away on Jan. 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Tampa, born Sept. 8, 1937, to the late Dr. David Rhodin Murphey Jr. & Caroline Gaines Murphey. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; brother, David Rhodin Murphey lll; his children, Meg Murphey-McCain (Wayne), Rog Murphey, Michelle Rowe (Roy), Garett Jabaut (Kelly); grandchildren, Daltyn, Murphey, Jackson, Carter, Collin, Jack, Amelia; nieces & nephew Bet Synder, Heddy Brown, David Murphey IV. Ben graduated from McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, attended Vanderbilt University, Bridgewater, & the University of Miami graduate school. After graduation, he worked as a citrus consultant at the Citrus Experiment Station ultimately leading him into the real estate industry. During this time, he joined the Army National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant for the next 8 years. Entering real estate development, he evolved into politics and the building industry associations both locally and state spending the next 34 years. A few of his many achievements were President of Pasco Builders Association, Florida Builder Of The Year, Past FHBA, Governmental Affairs, PAC and Legal Defense Fund Chairmans as well as Person of the Week, his last position was Director of Land Acquisition & Development for Transeastern Homes for Tampa & Orlando divisions. Whatever he engaged in - politics, industry issues, flying, car racing, boating or golfing, he will be most remembered for his intense love for his family, his sense of humor, quick wit, tall-tales & fast comebacks. Memorial service Feb. 5th, Emerald Green Resort & Country Club, 13941 Clubhouse Drive, Tampa, FL 33618, 4 pm.
