Charles Guy Obituary

GUY, Charles H. Jr. 86,of Tampa went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2010. Charlie was born in Pittsburg, PA on Feb. 5, 1924. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1945. At the Academy he wrestled, played football and lacrosse. He is a member of the Naval Academy Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He was a member of the All America Lacrosse Team in 1944 and 1945. During service duty in the Navy he served on the underwater demolition team. He went on to coach football, wrestling and lacrosse at The Bullis School, The University of Virginia, The University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University. Charlie moved to Tampa in 1957. He sold life insurance and was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He co-founded Plan Services Inc., in Tampa, in the 1970's and worked with the acquirer, Dun and Bradstreet through 1986. He then became an investor and served on the board of Pharmacy Management Services, Inc. Charlie was an avid boater and former member of the Ocean Reef Club, Cat Cay Club and Lyford Cay Club. He was an active member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church and Followers of the Way. Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife Marcia. He is survived by his children, Charles H. Guy, III and wife, Linda Guy of St. Petersburg, Kathy Guy and husband, Bill Doughty of Roanoke, VA, Allyn V. Martin of Tampa and Douglas D. Martin III and wife, Debbie DiMaio of Dade City; brothers, Richard S. Guy and Michael S. Guy, both of Columbus, OH; grandsons, Charles H. Guy, IV, John N. Guy and wife, Noriko Guy, Marlon DiMaio; also two great-grandsons, Keita Wolfe Guy and Jack Ryuto Guy. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Harrell, Jack Murray, Jim Winge, Bob Jordan and Trevor Smith. A private family graveside service will take place at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will take place at 1 pm, Friday, May 28, 2010, at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 San Jose St., Tampa. The family would like to thank Renny Braga, Robert Braga, Tom MacAlester, Libia Guerra, Pilar Warne and Miriam Garcia for their care and support.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa. www.metromin.org .
