passed peacefully in his sleep June 27, 2018 in his Tampa home. He was a man defined by his limitless kindness and generosity. Born in Illinois in 1952, his family moved to Holmes Beach in 1956. Dave grew up on the beach and was an avid fisherman. He attended the University of South Florida where he met Jan, who he was married to until 2005. Dave spent 32 years working for the City of Tampa Department of Public Works, where he was the deputy director for most of his career. After retiring from public service, he became a science teacher for Sligh Middle School.

He spent almost seven years as a docent and photographer for Lowry Park Zoo. If you have seen any photo or video in the news, online, or on a display for the zoo, you can bet Dave took it. He spent countless hours mastering the art of taking photos in this light and access restricted environment. He loved sharing his knowledge with visitors and had strong relationships with many of the zookeepers. Some of his most important work was photographing injured Florida panthers under the care of Dr. Ray Ball.

He was very close to his children, Clay Parkinson and Dana Parkinson, and spent Father's Day 2018 with them at the beach. He lives on through his children, to whom he instilled many of his life's passions; including cooking, photography, a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife, a love of reading, an incredible work ethic, and a wicked sense of humor. His infectious smile and roaring laughter will echo in the minds of everyone he knew.

Please share your condolences and memories of Dave with his children by mail at D. Parkinson, PO Box 48621, St. Petersburg, FL 33743 or by e-mail to [email protected] Dana and Clay invite you to join them for "A Day at the Zoo with Dad" at Lowry Park Zoo on Dave's birthday, Saturday July 21, 9:30-11 am. Together we will take photos and enjoy one of Dave's favorite places. An exhibition of his photography will be held in Tampa at a later date to celebrate his life.
