SHELDON, George Henry

71, of Miami, FL passed away August 23, 2018. A native of Wildwood, New Jersey, George was raised in Plant City. He was the son of the late Walter and Hannah Batts Sheldon. Survivors include siblings, Bette Campanella, Nadia (Doug) Bright; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Sheldon, Walter Sheldon, and Julia Murphy. George served as member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1982 and as a deputy attorney general under former Attorney General Robert Butterworth. During the Obama administration, Sheldon worked at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for a few years before an unsuccessful bid for Florida attorney general in 2014. Most recently Sheldon served as CEO of Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, a children's services agency for children in South Florida. The viewing will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 9:30-11:30 am at Shiloh Baptist Church 905 W. Terrace Dr. Plant City, FL 33563. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am. A Celebration of Life event is scheduled for Friday, September 21, from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Tampa Bay History Center, located at 801 Old Water Street, Tampa. In lieu of flowers for the service, contributions can be made to The Plant City High School Scholarship Fund in Memory of George Sheldon, 1 Raider Place, Plant City, FL 33563. For future contributions, a foundation memorializing George's legacy will be established and announced by the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at
