TERLEP, George 87, died May 17. Born in Elkhart, IN, April 12, 1923, he married Alma Robinson March 2, 1946. He graduated from Elkhart High School and Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame, where he played football under Frank Leahy on national championship teams. While in the Navy, he played football at Great Lakes under Paul Brown. Upon his discharge, he played for the Buffalo Bisons, Buffalo Bills, and later for the Cleveland Browns, who were undefeated in 1948, and won the national championship. He was a college football coach at five major universities in the United States. He was assistant coach, head coach and general manager in the Canadian Football League, winning 2 Grey Cup Championships. While in Canada, he had a weekly national football program on TV. Mr. Terlep worked as an executive in the mobile home, recreational vehicle and modular housing industry for 25 years. He then was a consultant in this industry before retiring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Monogram Club, Indiana Football Hall of Fame, and National Football League Alumni Association. He was a former member of Elcona Country Club in Elkhart, IN, and Silverthorn Country Club in Spring Hill. He volunteered and served on the boards of a large number of charitable organizations. Surviving are his wife, Alma; 2 daughters, Marianne and her husband, John Crawford of Brentwood, TN, Cynthia and her husband Ned Beach of Boonville, MO; 3 sons, Bob and his wife, Karen, of Baraboo, WI, Bill of Boonville, MO, and Dr. Tim Terlep and his wife, Shelly of Spring Hill; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Church, Friday, May 21, at 10 am. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to join the family at Silverthorn Country Club for a gathering in celebration of George's life. A private family interment ceremony will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell following the reception.
