BROWN, Mary Lou

of Tampa, Florida, passed peacefully away on Sept. 8, 2018, at University Village Inn in Tampa.She was born in Austell, Georgia, on Sept. 19, 1917, and would have been 101 years old on the 19th. She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. Jordan and Ella Daniell Jordan, and her beloved sister, Donalee Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Homer Herndon. She and Homer owned a greyhound race track which they enjoyed for many years, along with several automobile dealerships in the Tampa area.

After Homer's death in 1971, Mary Lou met the second great love of her life, Clinton Brown. They married in 1975 in Orlando, Florida, where they spent their winters. Summers were spent in their home in Waynesville, North Carolina. They purchased a large motor home in 1990 and traveled extensively between Florida, Colorado, and North Carolina for four years. Finally, they moved into University Village Retirement Facility in Tampa. Clinton passed away in 2009, and Mary Lou moved into the University Village Inn in 2015.

Mary Lou loved entertaining guests and cooking delicious meals for them. She was a gifted organist, and loved talking to her close friends. She had a great memory, a wicked sense of humor, and a wonderful ability to listen to her buddies.

She is survived by several cousins; a beloved God-daughter, Peggy Patton, of Birmingham; and two special friends, Mary Draeger and Betty Turner, who helped with her care for the last 30 years.
