HAUGEN, June B., 67, of Adams, NY, beloved mother, sister, grand-mother and friend, passed away peacefully at the home of her dear sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Wolf, of Avon Park on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She was born July 10,1946 in Carthage, NY to the late Harry and Genevieve (Wisner) Bingle. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1964 and completed her studies in English and education at Houghton College in 1968. She later received her Masters in Education from the State University of New York at Potsdam. June taught third grade at Carthage Elementary School for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. She married Charles Richard Haugen on April 11, 1981 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage, New York. Three years later they happily welcomed their only daughter, Sarah Marie. The Haugens enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe, attending theater productions, and spending time with family and friends. June was actively involved in the community. She played handbells at Asbury United Methodist Church, volunteered at Samaritan Medical Center and served on the board at the Salvation Army. She scheduled volunteers for the Salvation Army Saturday soup kitchen for over a decade. For many years she sang with Northern Choral Society and played piano and organ for various local churches that she attended. She had also been a member of Carthage Music Club and South Jefferson Community Chorus. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Charles "Chuck" Haugen in April 2005. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Michael Powell of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, two grandsons, Ethan Charles and Ryan Angus Powell; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Allen Eckelman of Avon Park, Mary and David Wolf of Avon Park, Beth and Terry Snider of Mexico, NY, and Barbara and Alan Flynn of Carthage, NY, one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Janna Bingle of Adams, NY and numberous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the spring at First Presbyterian Church in Watertown, NY.
