BLACK, Kermit A. "Mike" 90, of Tarpon Springs, passed away on July 28, 2014. He was born in Logansport, IN in 1923 and attended school there. A retired US Army MSGT, He served in WWII and the Korean conflict receiving the Bronze Star and other military decorations. After his retirement in 1965, he moved his wife and four children to Tarpon Springs. He worked for the Tarpon Springs Fire Department from 1965 to 1978 holding the rank of lieutenant and was the first fire marshall in the history of Tarpon Springs. He also worked as Safety Inspector for the Pinellas County School System. He is a member of the DAV, American Veterans Post 98, and Fire Marshalls Association of North America. Kermit is a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church since 1965, was well respected, always generous, and encouraged others to do their best. Kermit is preceded by his parents, Burrell and Lorenna Black. Survived by his wife, Theresa (Joan); children, Carolyn (Larry), Linda (Boyd), Diana (Michael) and Michael (Janet); 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation Sunday, Aug. 3 from 2-4 pm at Dobies Funeral Home, Tarpon Springs. Service Monday, Aug. 4, 11am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery. 727-942-0515
