HALEY, John James 92, of Palm Harbor, passed away Aug. 5, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Isabelle Haley; daughter, Barbara (Edward) Swain; grandchildren, Diana (John) Curran, and Edward Jr. (Jenn) Swain; and great-grand children, Brittany, Jacob, and Meghan Curran and Ariel and Sydney Swain. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Haley. John was a U.S.M.C. Captain and Purple Heart recipient. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was injured during the Battle of Saipan. After his enlistment, John continued to serve his country as the Chief of New York State's Army Corps of Engineering Real Estate Division where he scouted and secured land for military establishments. He was a loving family man who enjoyed fishing and target shooting. John and Isabelle moved to the Highland Lakes Community of Palm Harbor in 1989 and are 25 year parishioners of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Sunday Aug. 10 from 5-8 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am on Monday Aug. 11 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John's memory to St. Luke's.
