Margaret H. "Peggy" McMichael

McMICHAEL, Margaret H. "Peggy" of Tampa passed away peacefully on July 4th. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank P. McMichael Sr., her sons, Walton McMichael (Darby) and Dorsey McMichael, and was predeceased by her eldest son Frank McMichael Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Hawk (Chad), Paul McMichael (Ehren), Sarah McMichael (Travis); great-grandson Brayden McMichael; and former daughter-in-law Martha Altman (Chuck). Peggy was born on July 6, 1926, moved to Tampa with her family as a teenager and attended Plant High School and Duke University. She was involved in many civic and social activities, holding leadership and board positions at Tampa Women's Hospital, Metropolitan Ministries, MacDonald Training Center, Tampa Federation of Garden Clubs, Founders Garden Circle, and the Tampa Junior League, among others. She was renowned for her gardening abilities, beautifying their homes to the enjoyment of neighbors on San Miguel Street, Prospect Road and Sterling Avenue. Hyde Park United Methodist Church was the guiding force in Peggy's life for over 60 years and she valued greatly her many friends at church as well as the numerous support and leadership positions she held there. However, her greatest joy at church came from the children in the kindergarten Sunday School classes she taught for so many years. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 9th at 2pm at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 501 W. Platt St., Tampa, with a reception immediately following in the church activities center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Please sign the online guestbook at
