THORNHILL, Betty 98, of St. Petersburg passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 with her children by her side. Born June 5, 1914 in Cardiff, Wales she lived in Michigan as a longtime resident until moving to Florida permanently 15 years ago due to the death of her mother Violet A. Woodard who brought her to the United States in 1918. Her husband, Jack, passed away March 13, 1985. She is survived by daughter, Kyle Colley (Bill), 62 from Detroit, MI; son, Kevin Thornhill, 59 from Largo; granddaughters, Julie Drury, 29 from Detroit, twins Amanda Ferris, 26 from Atlanta and Robyn Ferris, 26 from Detroit; grandson, Steven Ferris, 24 from Detroit; and great-granddaughter Isabella Drury, 6 also from Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan 1939, with a B.A in Education and afterwards received a Master's degree in Psychology. During this time she was also a member of Phi Nu Sorority.She was a life member of Orchard Lake Country Club in Michigan; she was a longtime member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, the Salty Sisters, and the Vinoy Club. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player who often played at the Vinoy. She also enjoyed golf, traveling all around the world and spending time with her children. She will be missed by her family and the many friends who loved her very much.
