John Gordon: QSO, JP
Peacefully surrounded by his loving Girls at Te Rangimarie Hospice on Wednesday 5th December 2018. Dearly loved husband of Helen for 60 years. Much loved Dad of Roger and Dianne (Canada), Penelope and Gary (Urenui), and Kristine (New Plymouth). Loved and treasured Pop to Amanda, Liam, Finley, Kaleb; Connor, Justin, Richard, Guy; and Tamara. Great-Poppa to his 16 great-grandchildren. All messages to the Armstrong family, C/- PO Box 533, New Plymouth. A celebration of John's life will be held in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Henui Street, Fitzroy, New Plymouth, on Tuesday 11th December 2018 at 11.00am, private cremation to follow.

Pat and I were disappointed and distressed that we were overseas when our dear friend John left us. A super reliable and dependable man who achieved amazing outcomes from his lifetime of community service, touching many people on his life's journey.

Dear Helen,
I was very saddened to learn to day of Johns passing. Between 1990 and 1993 we shared many experiences together. We enjoyed the good times and survived the more difficult times. John was always totally loyal to his friends and to his party. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time

So sorry to hear of John's passing; my thoughts go out to Helen and the family. Through my involvement with the LEO Club, and subsequently at TSB, John always had great advice, and time for a chat. John never seemed to be idle and obviously had great love for his whanau and community.

Sincere condolences from Tom Waite and his family. Very sad news. John was always a great inspiration; especially during the trading days of "Powderham Petrol Station" and the "Arab Jacks Auto" times. He was a stalwart campaigner for the Retail Motor Trade and served as a very able President and board member for many years. Also the Jaguar car Club days. Will be really missed. He wont though be forgotten. 1 in a million kind of Kiwi Bloke. R.I.P Mate.

I admired John greatly for he treated all with respect and dignity.

Died on December 7, 2018. John was involved in the YMCA Taranaki for 50 years. He was an active Board Member for most of this time. He also was a member of the Y Stadium Trust over this period. Subsequently, as a Life Member, John was still active and provided sound advice. His knowledge was an asset to the organisation. John will be remembered for his willingness to assist, his style and friendly nature, and also for his contribution to the Taranaki Community. The YMCA Life Members, Board and staff extend their sincere sympathy to the Armstrong family.
