Emma R. Andrade

Emma R (Rico) Andrade, 101 years old, died on Friday evening, December 18, 2015 in Marian Manor. Born in Taunton, fourth child of Portuguese immigrants, Frank and Pauline, Emma attended Taunton Public Schools and graduated from Taunton High School as the most athletic female in her class. From the age of 16 she has lived a life of service to her community, being active in Red Cross, United Way and American Heart Association. At the age of 19, Emma was instrumental in the founding of the Portuguese American Civic Club where she served as the first President and remained active for over 25 years. In the late 1930s she was employed at the Bristol County Superior Court clerks office and was eventually appointed an Assistant Clerk by Clerk Magistrate William Grant. On July 4, 1942 she married the late Aristides A. Andrade and they had a son Peter who is married to Janet (Peterson) Andrade and they have a son Alex. Emma served her church by being active in the National Council of Catholic Women and served twice president of the Taunton Council and also served as President of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Emma served as Chairperson of the Bishops Charity Ball and by special appointment of the Bishop of the Fall River Diocese she served on the Bishops Pastoral Council, attended special services as a delegate and was the recipient of the Marian Medal from her parish of St. Anthony. Emma was an active member of the Business and Professional Womens Foundation. She was a member of the Quota Club, Morton Hospital Corporation and Board of Directors of the Old Colony Historical Society. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave (route 138 South) Taunton on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthonys Church at 10 AM.
