Dee J. Carroll DeVANE

DeVANE, Dee J. Carroll, was born in Tampa March 18, 1917, the daughter of Pat and Estelle Carroll. She graduated from Hillsborough High School where she was active on the student council. Dee attended Fla State College for Women where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and later was taken into their Emerald Circle in recognition of 60 years membership. Dee married E J DeVane in 1943 and they had two daughters, Patricia (Pat) and Michele (Mike). Dee was a loving mother and wife as well as a multi-talented homemaker and seamstress and was involved in her girls' scouting and other educational activities. She became a professional artist in oriental brush painting when she and E J moved to Fairfax, VA, and studied under several masters from China. When E J retired in 1982, they returned to the Tampa area where she continued painting until her death. During her years in oriental art, she received many awards. She held memberships in several art organizations, including Sumi-e Society of America, National League of American Pen Women and Tampa Realistic Artists. Dee was also an avid bridge player. She is preceded in death by her husband, E J; daughter, Pat; and grandson, Lee Montgomery; and survived by daughter, Michele; two grandchildren, Eli and Grace Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, in the Auditorium at University Village, 12401 N. 22nd St., Tampa, FL.
