Donald Walter CAMERON

CAMERON, Donald Walter, age 90 of Tampa, passed away January 14, 2013 after a brief illness. Donald was born in New York City on March 13, 1922 and lived there until he transferred to Tampa in 1965. He began his career as a U.S. Customs Inspector in New York and retired in 1986 in Tampa. Donald served in the U.S. Army during World War II from May, 1943 until February, 1946. His first wife Margaret Leonard Cameron preceded him in death in 1995 and his son, John in 2000. He is survived by his children, Ellen Cameron, Melbourne, Fla., Donald Cameron, Atlanta, Ga., Margaret Petti, and Laurie Cameron; grandchildren, Nicholas Huckabee, Jeanette, Margaret, Cynthia and Marion Cameron, and Tyler and Saorise Keel. Donald married Veronica Bokman Gillmeister Cameron in 1996 and they lived in Middleport, N.Y. in the summer and Tampa in the winters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree Knight. He held several offices during his membership. He served on the board of the Morningstar School of Tampa for several years was President of the Dad's Club of Tampa Catholic High School, and a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital. A Funeral Mass for the repose of his soul will be held on Friday morning, January 18, at 10 o'clock at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N. Himes Ave., with Monsignor Laurence E. Higgins, Penn., Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 17, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Catholic Prayer Service to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel of JGR Funeral Home, 6718 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa. His Ashes will be buried at a later date with Military Honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or .
