WILLCOX, Edward George, 96, left for heaven on Saturday June 29, 2013 at his residence in Brandon, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred George, mother Gertrude May and youngest daughter, Andrea Willcox. He is survived by his beloved wife Kay, of the home; loving daughters, Paula (Brian) Pierce, of St Petersburg, Chris (Steve) Wheatley, Anita (Ken) Smith and Mandy Willcox all of Ohio. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Ed will be missed dearly by his entire family and all his friends and students who knew and loved him. Originally from Portsmouth England, he came to the States in 1957. His greatest love was music, jazz being his favorite, he played piano with the Big Bands in England. He played piano and organ for many churches, weddings and other social events after he arrived here. He and his wife opened The Willcox Academy of Music in Brandon where they both taught piano and organ to 3 generations of students. Because of his love of music and people, his greatest passion in life was to impart his gift onto others through his teaching. Friends are invited to a memorial, birthday party and celebration of his life which will be held on what would have been his 97th birthday on July 2nd. It will be held at the Winthrop Barn Theatre, at 11349 Bloomingdale Ave from 7-10 pm. Mr. Willcox's 6 year old great grandson, Westley, has a fatal neurodegenerative disease called Batten disease. Confined to a wheel chair, he suffers from seizures, blindness, dementia and will soon lose his life. Because the disease is so rare there is no government funding and depend solely on private donations. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to BDSRA in honor of Westley Mckinley. Send donations to: BDSRA, 1175 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215. Or visit www.bdsra.org
