FOSSEN, Gary Dean, 75, of Tampa, passed away on January 19, 2013 at Melech Life Path Hospice after suffering a stroke on October 29 at his river home. He was born to Gordon and Barbara Fossen on April 1, 1937 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Niggle Fossen; his son, Jay Fossen; daughter, Wendy Fossen Yepes (Cesar); granddaughters, Rachel Yepes and Emma Yepes; brother, Brad Fossen (Lori); brother, Leigh Fossen (Barbara); as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. He graduated from high school in Winona, Minn. where he spent most of his boyhood. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 27, 1956 and was discharged October 6, 1959. He attended one year of college at Winona State and then moved to Phoenix, Ariz. where he started a 34 year career as an Air Traffic Controller. He served the FAA towers at Fresno, Calif.; San Francisco, Calif.; Colorado Springs, Co.; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and finally Tampa where he retired November 28, 1990. While living in San Francisco, he met and married Kathleen. Their two children were born in Fremont Calif. While working at the Tampa Tower, he also ran a video game business. After retiring, he entered into Real Estate Sales, working for Century 21. Later retiring from that, he and Kathleen purchased a house on the Suwannee River, where they spent many happy days together. He resided in Tampa for 37 years. A memorial service is planned for February 2nd, 2:00 p.m. at First Reformed Church, 8283 W. Hillsborough Ave. On February 15 at 2:30 p.m., a military service will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
