James Arthur (Jim) MILLER

MILLER, James Arthur (Jim), 70, of Lake Placid, Fla., passed away on November 14, 2012. Jim was born March 23, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia, son of Pioneer Families, Clarence E. Miller and E. Louise Keen Miller Whatley, whose parents have predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margaret (Maggie) Miller. Jim attended Sebring School through the 9th grade, transferring to Lake Placid High School, graduating in 1960. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, obtaining the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Jim retired in 1982 after serving 22 years, Foreign Duty Stations; France, Germany, Thailand and the Philippines. He was employed by General Electric Aircraft Engines as a field representative for 21 years, serving as a technical adviser on GE Propulsion systems, retiring in 2004. Jim graduated from Embry-Riddle University with a Bachelor of Professional Aeronautics degree. He always said he was blessed and privileged to have had two fathers, his parental father and his step-father James (Ed) Edwin Whatley, who raised him. Jim leaves behind four sisters; Margaret Miller Tope (Joe) Hatch, Nancy Whatley (Ronnie) Keel, Sandra Whatley (Frank) Burke and Karen Whatley (Jessie) Jones. He has seven nieces; six nephews, and nephew, Denver James (Denny) who predeceased him; ten grand nieces; eleven grand nephews; three great grand nephews; and James Dennis (JD), preceded him in death. Jim is a 35 year Master Mason of the Placid Lodge #282 where he was very active. He was a member of the York Rite EL Monte Commandery No. 2 and a member of the EL Kalah Shrine Temple and the Highlands Co. Shrine Club, American Legion Post #25. Jim was a member of the Venus United Methodist Church. As per his wishes, no memorial service will be held. A small graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery for family will be held at a later date.
