Joy R. SPENCER

SPENCER, Joy R., 88, of Sebring passed away at her home on Friday, March 21, 2014. She was born September 3, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland to Franklin and Virginia Garrett. She came to Sebring 10 years ago from Port Charlotte. She was employed by Standard Oil Company in the accounting department as a comptometer operator. Mrs. Spencer loved the outdoors. She enjoyed sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing for snook and redfish and bicycling. She and Jack were canoe guides and developed canoe trails in the Everglades including a 100 mile trail. She and her husband were known as "Swamp Rats" of the Everglades. They spent 3 weeks paddling the entire length of the Suwannee River. She also loved to cook and was a great outdoor camp cook. She is survived by her loving husband, John T. "Jack" Spencer, a daughter, Donna Bognar of Sebring, a grandson, David Bognar, and a great-granddaughter, Lily Anne Bognar. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ with Rev. George Miller officiating. Condolences may be expressed by visiting TBO.Com.
