Lillian M. Martindale

MARTINDALE, Lillian M., Longtime Avon Park resident, Lillian Martindale passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring the result of a heart attack, she was 87. Lillian is remembered for her great optimism, deep patriotism, her friendly smile and her willingness to help. She was always sympathetic to people in need and gave generously her time and money. Although only 4ft 10 in tall she had a huge heart, taking care of others before herself. She was famous for her skills in the kitchen as a southern cook and often put out big meals for all to enjoy and if you went to her house you couldn't leave until she fixed you a plate of food. She was an avid gardener and always had fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. She loved people and loved to work, she had several jobs during her life including waitress, restaurant owner, and cashier. She continued to work until the age of 80. Lillian was born in Elba, Alabama, January 13, 1926; she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Martindale and son, Jimmie O. Kendrick. She is survived by sons, Julian C. Kendrick (Avon Park), and Jerry O. Kendrick, daughter-in-law, Diana C. Kendrick (Lakeland) three granddaughters, Jennifer Loyd (Bartow), Catherine Ogburn (Frostproof) and Melissa Sowa (Tennessee) and seven great grandchildren, Jordan & Ethan Loyd (Bartow), Payton & Hannah Ogburn (Frostproof), Forest, Willow & Lilith Cottrill (Tennessee). Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park, 111 East Circle Street, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
