GUARIGLIA, Magnolia "Maggie", 92, of Tampa Florida, passed away January 15, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. Maggie was born in Tampa, Florida to Peter and Maria Rodriquez on September 24, 1920 and was the youngest of four siblings: Dante, Peter and Dora. She graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1938 and worked for a time as a bookkeeper at the original Hotel Floridan. She would first marry Gasper T. Capitano, divorce and later marry Vincent James Guariglia, her late husband, whom she was married to for 43 years until his death in 1999. Maggie traveled with her husband Vince as he served in the military (Air Force). She literally traveled coast to coast and was stationed at Mac Dill AFB in Tampa, Florida; Lackland AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas; Sheppard AFB in San Antonio, Texas; Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc, California; and Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California. In the late 60s she spent four years stationed at Lindsey Air Station in Wiesbaden, Germany and traveled throughout Germany in addition to Italy and the Netherlands. Upon their retirement from military service she lived in Arnold, Maryland; Concord, New Hampshire; and Hackettstown, New Jersey before finally returning home to Tampa, Florida in 1986. While in Tampa Maggie lived on Wheeling Drive in Carollwood at Logan Gate for 24 years, she dearly loved and was loved by her neighborhood "family" and is remembered to this day for her daily walks, beautiful smile, kind words and honorary-appointment as neighborhood watch chief. In 2010 she briefly moved to Aston Gardens and in 2011 moved to Los Angeles, California living at Silverado Senior Living-Beverly Place where she remained until her passing. She enjoyed spending time and holidays with her family and friends, attending various family events in Tampa, Atlanta and Los Angeles, Maggie loved westerns, cookies and, sometimes, ice cream for dinner. She also enjoyed playing pinochle, doing cross-word puzzles, was a member of the Eastern Star, said her rosary nightly and most of all enjoyed a good brisk daily walk. She was a friend to everyone wishing each God's blessing and loved her family very much. Maggie is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Maria Rodriquez; her husband Vincent James Guariglia; and two brothers Peter Rodriquez and Dante Rodriguez all of Tampa. She is survived by sister, Dora Perez; sister in-law, Louise Jolliff; daughter, Frances (Ricardo) Sermeno; son, Peter (Laurie) Guariglia; God-daughter, Mary Anne Simons; four grandchildren, Ricky (Natasha) Sermeno, Amber (Sidnei) Silva, Nicholas Fujiwara, Kevin (Monica) Fujiwara; and three great-grand-children, Sophia Silva; Cristiano Silva; and Samantha Sermeno. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 14 at St Paul Catholic Church located at 12708 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, Florida, 33618 with burial to follow on Friday, February 15 at the Florida National Cemetery 6502 SW 102nd Avenue Bushnell, FL 33513. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and thanks to the staff of Silverado Senior Living- Beverly Place and the Silverado Hospice team for their expert compassion and care in providing comfort and support to Miss Maggie while a resident at Silverado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made, in her memory, to Silverado Senior Living-Beverly Place, 330 North Hayworth Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90048, Attention Monica Westphaln, Administrator. Per Maggie's wish the donations will be shared between all the care givers at Silverado.
