Robert Noland YOUNG

YOUNG, Robert Noland Sr., 94, of Avon Park, Florida and formerly of Martins ville, Va., passed from his loving family on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at the Oakes at Avon Park Nursing Home, Avon Park, Florida. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va. with the Reverend David Schill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel, Martinsville, Va. Mr. Young was born in Martinsville, Va. on May 1, 1918 to the late John Nathaniel Young and Cora Bradley Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Martin Young; two sisters, Mary Elliott and Jewel Hodnette; and eight brothers, John, Melvin, Claude, Dudley, Grady, Harry, Roy and Haley Young. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained while stationed in the Philippines. Before he retired, he was a business owner and held lifelong connections with the Martinsville area. For a number of years, he was an active member of Granberry United Methodist Church in Martinsville, Va. In later years, he became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Avon Park, Florida. Mr. Young was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his two sons, Robert N. Young, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Randall Young of Martinsville, Va.; grandson, Jason Young of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and in-laws. Pallbearers will be Robert N. Young, Jr., Randall Young, Jason Young, Wilton Donavant, Charlie Beard and Jerry Young. Honorary pallbearers include his friends and neighbors of the Knoll Community in Avon Park and the nurses and staff of the Oakes of Avon Park Nursing Home. Mr. Young will be missed by those who knew him and was kind and helpful to all. His piercing blue eyes and 100 watt smile will be with us forever. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Alabama Animal Rescue, P. O. Box 1818, Tuscaloosa, AL 35403. This animal welfare organization was started in 1991 by Bob and Suzanne Young for the benefit of abused and homeless animals in the state of Alabama.
