HICKMAN, Sharon Lynn, our beloved, passed gently into heaven, ending a long and courage-ous battle with cancer on Wednes-day, October 3, 2012. Sharon leaves behind to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of nearly 45 years, John P. Hickman, LtCol, USMC retired; daughter Amy Lynn Blackburn, husband, Freddy Blackburn and daughter, Sarah Elise Blackburn of Spring Hill; son, MSgt John P. Hickman, Jr. (USAF), wife, MSgt Jessika Hickman (USAF) and daughters, Casey, Devon and Taylor, of Navarre, Florida; sisters, Mildred (Faye) Flanigan Uber and Celia Flanigan Stephen and brother, John Thomas Flanigan and wife, Patricia, all of Moyock, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends across the country. Sharon's greatest joy beyond raising her family was her love of military life, particularly two years stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, where she enjoyed Mah Jong, golf and bowling nearly every day. Her humor was exemplified in the numerous TV sitcoms she loved to watch, but she took particular pleasure in watching Judge Judy dispense justice in thirty minute segments. Sharon's life was like a brilliant light that shone even on the darkest day. Sharon never met a stranger. Her humor, spirit, courage and love of family, including her beloved pets, will be a constant reminder to her family and friends, setting a standard we can only hope to approach but never achieve. The family would like to thank the dedicated Staff of Shands Hospital, University of Florida in Gainesville for the care and friendship they provided to Sharon during her two-year struggle with Leukemia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sharon's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on October 20, 2012 at the Christian Church in Wildwood at 11:00 a.m.
