SMITH, Wilbur J., 94, of Dade City, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Gulfside Center for Hospice Care at Pasco Regional. He was born February 21, 1918, to Jenous and Myrtle Rhodes Smith in Wellington, Kansas. He was a WWII
Navy Veteran serving in China, Japan, and Hawaii. He moved to Dade City after living 15 years in Franklin, N.C., where he enjoyed bird watching, gardening, woodworking, and the mountains; prior to moving to Franklin, he lived in Lake Worth, Florida for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen L. Smith, Dade City; two daughters, Eileen Nave and her husband Michael, DeLand, FL, and Karen Detweiler, DeLand, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael Nave III, Brian Nave, Jonathan Detweiler, and Susan Reeve; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Glenn Smith. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the 5th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. At 10:00 a.m. the family will receive friends for visitation prior to service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
