SMITH, Benjamin Franklin, "Frank", age 76 of Brooksville, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Bayfront Medical Center. Born November 22, 1936, Frank was a lifelong resident and fifth generation of one of Hernando County's pioneer families. He was a 1955 graduate of Hernando High School and was formerly employed as an Electrical Engineer with Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative and worked as a contractor for BellSouth. Frank was the last constable to serve in Hernando County from 1970 - 1973 and aggressively ran for Sherriff in the early 1980's. He was charter member of the Regional Coordinating Council for Vocational, Adult General Education and Community Instructional Services, Region Fifteen, served as director of the Land O' Lakes Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Rotary Club of Ridge Manor, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lacoochee. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Frank and Dollie Peterson Smith. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Theresa "Terri" Smith; daughter & son-in-law: Debi & Wade Thomas of Brooksville; son & daughter-in-law: Kenny & Donna Smith of Brooksville; grandchildren: Brad Smith and his wife, Beverly, Jonathan & Ben Boncaro and Lindsey & Arien Thomas. Visitation for friends will be 5 - 7 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 with Reverend Eldridge Parrish of the First Baptist Church of Lacoochee officiating.
