RAFTERY, David was born December 23, 1937 in Washington DC to Thomas Raftery and Frances Curry; he passed away on January 2, 2014 in Tampa. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nupis; sister Marilyn Grinstead of California; three nieces, Erin, Susan, Mary; one nephew, Eric; and is preceded in death by one brother, John. David was a Brother Blue Nose from his time north of the Arctic Circle with the armed forces of the U.S.A.F. David retired after 20 years of service as a communications specialist and served in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. During the Vietnam War he was stationed in Thailand and was assigned to US Army Special Operations Group (SOG) as a forward air controller in Laos. He was awarded the Purple Heat and other related medals and ribbons. David will receive military honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
