GUINEY Evelyn L, 82, of Lake Placid, Florida (formerly of Kettering, OH) passed away surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 30, 1931 in Gary, IN. She spent her childhood in Gary, where she met her future husband, Donald J Guiney. After attending Indiana University and earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Evelyn and Don were married. She began her teaching career of more than 30 years as a kindergarten teacher in Virginia while Don was stationed in the Navy. Following his Naval career, the couple moved to Kettering, Ohio and Evelyn started her career, first as a pre-school teacher, and then as the Director of Christ United Methodist Church Nursery School in Kettering. During her years there she touched many lives and established a love of learning in hundreds of young children. Upon her retirement, Evelyn and Don moved to Lake Placid, FL in 1990 and became active community members in Tropical Harbor Estates. Evelyn volunteered numerous hours for Nu-Hope, helped write and produce the community newsletter and was a devoted member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Friday night bingo, Monday morning coffee and pancake breakfasts. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Nancy Salvail of The Sea Ranch, CA, her son Robert Guiney (Laura) of Centerville, OH, and daughters Lynn Guiney of Kettering, OH and Janet (Brad) Marman of Orlando, FL. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Bill (Jamie), Carrie and Dan Guiney, Colin and Kyle Marman, and her great granddaughter, Mikayla Guiney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita James Olander and Carl Olander and her beloved husband of 58 years, Donald J. Guiney.
