HARLESS, Hugh V., 86, of Tampa, FL. died Thursday, November 28, 2013. Hugh was born in Bismark, ND to Harry and Helen, and grew up in Green-wood, SC. He received a B.A. from the University of Georgia, started his career in insurance with the Maryland Casualty Company, and in 1972 moved to Tampa, Fl. and started his successful business that he sold at the age of 79. Hugh had a great sense of humor and was generous with his devotion to his family. He was a loving husband to Cora, a devoted father to his daughters Marie Speir and Leslie (Henrik) Bacho, and adored his grandchildren Lukas and Lucie. Hugh loved music, particularly big band music, and, although he played several instruments, his passion was the clarinet. He played in many ensembles over the years. He enjoyed flying and took his family on trips around the country in his Piper Arrow. He also had a love of the outdoors and was always very active - whether fishing, camping, hiking in the woods or his daily walk in the neighborhood. He was an active member of the Palma Ceia UMC and the Interbay Rotary Club. Hugh served in the Navy in the Philippines at the end of WWII. The family appreciates the care and services provided by Horizon Bay Memory Care and Lifepath Hospice. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Abe Brown Ministries 2921 N. 29th Street Tampa, FL. 333605. A memorial service will be held in December at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church.
