ALLEN, Joseph Doorley Jr., formerly of North Plainfield, N.J., age 92, passed away on May 4, 2013 in Tampa, FL. Joe was a Captain in the U.S., Army Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Missouri School of Mines as a metallurgical engineer and worked for ALCOA, American Smelting & Refining Co. (ASARCO), and Federal Bronze respectively during his 48 year career. He served as President of the Newark N.J. Chapter of the American Foundry Society for several years and edited the American Society Book, "Recommended Practices For Copper Base Alloys". Joe lived for 41 years in North Plainfield, N.J. during which time he served as the first President of the Somerset County CYO. Joe most recently resided at St. Joseph's-John Knox Village in Tampa, FL. where he was a resident delegate to the Board of Directors. Joe's beloved wife, Ruth, Richmond Allen, passed away 11 years ago. Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-father. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph D. Allen, III of Hong Kong and his partner, Doreen Pao Cheng; daughters, Judy Allen of Kaneohe, HI, and Joyce Allen Thornton of Tampa, FL. and her husband, Doyle; 5 grandchildren, Kelley Withy-Berry and her husband Shaun, Jody Allen and his partner, Melissa, Jace Withy-Allen and his wife, Charity, Shawn Withy-Allen and his wife, Sarah, and Kira Withy-Allen and her fiance, Daniel; 5 great grandchildren, Bryce, Luke and Ian Withy-Berry, and Azariah and Makoa Withy-Allen. A memorial service and celebration of Joe's life will be held at St. Joseph"s Church in North Plainfield, N.J. on Saturday, August 10 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your local hospice.
