DOUGHERTY, Joseph H., 95, of Thonotosassa, Sgt.(Retired) US Army, passed away on August 9th, 2012 following a brief illness. Joe was born in Scott County, VA, on Sept. 28, 1916. He was among the many heros who landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day with the 29th Division, M Company, 116th Regiment and served in the US Army from 4/17/1941 to 10/28/1945 when he was honorably discharged. Following a career as a teacher and principal in the Scott County School System, he retired to Florida with his wife, Emily, and son, Joe Pat. He was active in the Lion's Club, the Republican Party and other organizations. Joe was a positive, loving and encouraging influence in every life he touched. He is survived by many family members and friends. The family will receive visitors at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 6 pm. Services will be held at the Liberty Southern Baptist Church, 2505 W Granfield Ave. Plant City on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11am.
