MINGACCI, Louis F. A., 87, of Sebring, Florida, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 6, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Carmine and Agatha Mingacci. He was known as "Little Brooklyn" by friends he grew up with in New York. Mr. Mingacci served in the U.S. Army. At the young age of 18, he charged a machine gun nest destroying it with a grenade which resulted in saving his squadron. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. He and his wife came to Sebring forty years ago from Miami. He retired after 30 years from the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in dowtown Sebring. For a number of years he was a service manager at Jim Blackman Ford. He was a member of the Sebring Writer's Guild and a guest newspaper correspondent. He was also a talented artist. Many of his paintings were displayed at the Post Office and several locations in Sebring. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9853 in Avon Park. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. He is survived by sons, Tim Mingacci and Louis Mingacci, Jr., both of Sebring and daughter, Sandi Dodson of Cartersville, Georgia, sisters, Theresa Vasta of Riverside, California, Marie Mertz of Wantagh, New York and Gloria Gargano of Long Island, New York, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. Services will be at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Steve Kearney officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the time of service. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Military Rites given by VFW Post 4300 of Sebring. Condolences may be expressed by visiting TBO.Com.
