DUNCAN, Rhonnie Andrew "Andy", passed away on March 22, 2014 in Bradenton, FL. He was born on December 22, 1929 in Tampa, FL. Andy was a life-long learner. He was educated at Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Junior High and Plant High schools. He received his BA in Economics from The University of the South in Sewanee, TN in 1952. While there he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa and Blue Key Who's Who. He was the editor of the school annual. Andy received his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1955 where he was elected to Phi Delta Phi and served as the Business Manager of the Florida Law Review. Andy attended Sewanee's School of Letters program 2007-2011, earning a Master of Arts in English and American Literature. Andy practiced law in Tampa and Ruskin for 30 years, but had many varied interests including beekeeping, raising blackberries and citrus and had a wine grape vineyard in Pasco County. He was active in sports all of his life, having competed in tennis in high school and college, Porsche autocrosses and rallies at Sebring and Road Atlanta, flying hot air balloons and sailplanes. At one time he owned racing greyhounds. He was an avid boater who cruised, with many different friends, the entire Atlantic Seaboard from the Keys to Canada, as well as the major waterways east of the Mississippi, from the Gulf Coast to the St. Lawrence River. With his wife Tommie, who predeceased him, he traveled extensively throughout the world and owned a home in Spain's Costa del Sol. In addition, he and his wife owned and operated a B&B in Blue Hill, ME., for six years. While there, his participation with the Surry Opera Company took them to Russia to perform in 1986. Most recently, he owned an urban winery in Elkin, NC. Andy was a very devout member of the Episcopal Church. He sang in many choirs, was a lay reader, chalicer, former member of the Vestry, a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Verger's Guild. Andy's most active involvement throughout his adult life was with his beloved alma mater, Sewanee. He served on the Board of Trustees for 34 years, and was a member of the Board of Regents for six years. He was his Class Leader and a member of the Alumni Council, as well as maintaining his strong connection with his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order. In 2006, Andy was awarded The Sewanee Alumni Distinguished Service Award, and, just prior to his death, was named a Trustee Emeritus. Andy also participated in many civic groups and other organizations during his life. He was an Eagle Scout, an Assistant Scout Master and member of the Gulf Ridge Council. He had long term memberships in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Masons, the York Rite, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Exchange Club, Merrymakers Club, Tampa Club, Blue Hill Country Club and Key Royale Country Club. Andy is survived by his daughter, Beth of Elkin, NC, his son, Drew, daughter-in-law, Colleen, and grand-sons, Rhand and Sands of Temple Terrace, FL. The funeral service will be held at All Saints Chapel in Sewanee, TN on April 1, 2014 at 10AM with burial to follow. Additional memorial services will be held in Holmes Beach, FL and Brooklin, ME. Dates are yet to be determined.
