SMITH, Roger Lee, 66, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Tuesday morning July 16, 2013 at the Florida Hospital Lake Placid. He was born on September 6, 1946 in Goose Creek, TX to parents Ruth E. (Imhoff) and Otis Earl Smith. Roger proudly served his country in the US Army serving in both Vietnam and Europe. He graduated from the University of Michigan with an engineering degree. Roger moved to Lake Placid from Staten Island, NY after retiring from BP Oil and Gas. As a young man Roger enjoyed bowling and tennis, and later in life a good card game and he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was the Quarter Master with the Lake Placid VFW Post 3880 and was of the Christian faith. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving mother, Ruth E. Smith; sister, Yvonne Higgins, niece; Katherine Higgins and nephew, Alexander Higgins. A service with military honors to celebrate Roger's life will be held 11:00 AM Friday July 19, 2013 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd. Lake Placid, FL with the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL at a later date.
