Samuel A. ANDERSON

ANDERSON, Samuel A., Sr., 82, of Riverview, Fla. passed away on August 18, 2012. Samuel was born in Havana, Cuba. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a member of the 1952 Olympic Cuban Team, and competed in the 110-High Hurdles. Samuel was nicknamed "The Cuban Comet". He graduated from the National Institute of Physical Education in Cuba and received a Scholarship from the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the track and field team. He also competed in the 1954 Pan American Games, where he won Gold. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. He retired after a long career as a receiving clerk. Samuel was a positive, humble and caring individual. He is survived by his wife, Maria; daughter; two sons; sister; two daughters-in-law; and six grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the Tampa Spanish Seventh Day-Adventist Church, 3405 Grace Street on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 6:30pm where Funeral services will take place at 7:30pm. The burial will take place on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 10am at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
