Bernardino Rodriguez Obituary



RODRIGUEZ, Bernardino, 87, of Lake Placid, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011. He was born August 20, 1923, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, to Matias and Agustina (Vega) Rodriguez. He was owner and operator of a grocery store; of Catholic faith; served in the U.S. Army during World War II; a resident of Florida since the mid 1990s, coming from Puerto Rico and most recently a resident of Highlands County since 2010, coming from Homestead, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marta Rodriguez of Cayey; six daughters, Carmen Murga (Jose) of Lake Placid, Lucy Ayala (Zenon) of Sebring, Fla., Betty Rodriguez of Davie, Fla., Elsie Rehman (Aslam) of Las Vegas, Nev., Evelyn Jimenez (Emmett) of Homestead, Fla., and Carolyn Brewer (Andy) of England; five sons, Hector B. Rodriguez (Maria) of Panama City, Fla., Victor R. Rodriguez (Lisa) of New York, Vernon Rodriguez (Jean) of Tacoma, Wash., Edward Rodriguez (Norma) of Puyallup, Wash., and Ruddy Rodriguez (Evelyn) of Olympia, Wash.; sisters, Lydia Rodriguez of Puerto Rico, Ernestina Rodriguez of Clifton, N.J., and Juanita Claudio of York, Pa.; 35 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, with Father Jose Ruiz officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Sarasota National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stephenson-Nelson
