MORTON, Brinsley B. P. (Sonny), 84, passed away at Melech Hospice House on Nov. 15, from lung cancer. Born and raised in Tampa, graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1947. He was preceded by his parents and daughter, Linda Shannon Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Claire (Frenchy) of 63 years; children, Cindy Lynn, Melody Feinberg and Jeff Morton; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grand children; sister, Myrna Younglove; brother, Eddie Morton; 2 sisters in law; a brother in law; 3 sons in law; and 3 nephews. He worked for Jim Walter Homes for 7 years in the Carolinas building homes for Floridians. Sonny retired in 2000 from AA Casey Co. after 31 years of loving his job and working for the wonderful Casey family. From 2000-2012 (as a husband and wife team) volunteered as Docents at Tampa's Lowery Park Zoo, helping at the front gate to bring in school buses from all over the state. Their good work was recognized by many awards and newspaper articles written about them. Sonny was a member of the Sports Alumni for Hillsborough High School, 1943-1949. This Alumni was responsible for the School Board naming the Middle school for Crocket Farnell and the High school for Dick Spoto. Sonny was the coordinator for the track team. He held the high jump record for the school, which lasted two more years after he graduated. He loved Jazz and joined the Tampa Bay Jazz Society in the 90's; he traveled the state to follow his favorites. His humor and love will be missed by many.
