MAHLER, C.Edward "Ed", 95 of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Merrick, New York, passed away on December 7, 2012 after a brief illness. Ed served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and retired from Sperry Gyroscope Co. New York, where he worked for 39 years. He was a master gardener and an active member of the Republican Club in Spring Hill. He had many hobbies and talents. An inveterate handyman, he was always ready to help neighbors, friends or family. He will be lovingly remembered by all for his generosity and unforgettable sense of humor. Mr. Mahler was preceded in death by Mary Frances, his wife of 58 years; and his son, Charles. He is survived by daughters, Marilyn Meagher (Larry) of St. Simons Is., GA and Barbara Sterner (Roy) of Carnegie, PA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, December 10, 2012, 9:30 AM at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Spring Hill, FL. Interment will be in Middle Village, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ed may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul society or any local animal rescue group.
