FALLS, Carolyn D., 87 of Dade City, departed her beloved east Pasco County on December 26, 2012. She is survived by her son John, daughter-in-law Julie, and granddaughter, Lilah of Blanton; son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Lori of Atlanta; and her brother and sister-in-law, Warren James Dowling, Jr. and Dorothy, of Blanton. Extended family include her nephews and their families: Warren James III and Debbie Dowling of Blanton, their son Kyle, Michael Dowling of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Patrick Dowling of Spartanburg, SC and his children Andie, Mary and Adam. Carolyn was born at the Blanton home of her parents, Warren and Cassie Dowling, the eldest of 3 siblings and a 5th generation Florida native. Her sister Dorothy is deceased. Carolyn graduated from Pasco High, studied business at the Brewster Vocational School in Tampa, and worked during World War II for Vance Iron & Steel in Chattanooga. After the war she married Charles Falls of Dade City and worked in the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court at the Pasco County Courthouse. She held clerical positions at St. Leo College and Pasco-Hernando Community College, worked as a correspondent for the Tampa Tribune, and was co-owner with her son John of Plants of Blanton, a foliage nursery. Carolyn was active in the First United Methodist Church of Dade City, the Pasco County Historical Society and the Dade City Garden Club. She was well known as a person who loved to talk. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer in children's programs at the Methodist Church. Local and Florida history were chief among her passions. After retiring, she served as a Trustee of the Pioneer Florida Museum, of which her mother was a founding member. She worked as a volunteer at the Museum several days each week. Funeral services will be held 10am Monday, December 31, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Dade City. Interment will follow at Townsend House Cemetery. The family will receive friends for viewing from 4-7pm Sunday evening at the 5th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cassie Dowling History Center at the Pioneer Florida Museum, 15602 Pioneer Museum Road, Dade City, FL 33523.
