COMER, Rev. Donald R., 81, of Clearwater died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Morton Plant Hospital. He was born July 14, 1931, in Henderson KY and received a Masters of Sacred Theology from Emory University before serving as a United Methodist pastor for 48 years. Don served churches in Kentucky, Georgia, and throughout Florida before retiring in 1997. Don was a wonderful husband, a loving father, and a friend to everyone. He had a beautiful singing voice which he used in praise of God and to uplift others. He lived his life in service of others with a special gift for visiting shut-ins and those in need. Don also enjoyed tennis and fishing and adored his little dog Carlos. He married Ola (Sanchez) Comer on September 14, 1951, in Tampa. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Barry Comer and his wife, Julie of Atlanta; Kenneth Comer and his wife, Laura of Fort Myers; Donna Lapcevic of Crystal Beach; four grandchildren, Noel Quinones of Crystal Beach; Michael Comer and his wife Megan of Charlotte NC; Mary Kathryn Comer and Daniel Comer both of Atlanta; and his sister Iris Corum of Henderson KY. Don was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Comer. Visitation with the family will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Skycrest United Methodist Church, followed by a service at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Nancy Mayeux of Union Street United Methodist Church and Rev. Michael Pestel of Skycrest United Methodist Church.
