COMES, Ernestdeen "Deane", 80, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, devoted Mother and Grandmother. She was born legally blind, in Falco Ala., was educated at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Fla. Later she achieved a dual degree in Education and Social Work and was the first in her family to earn a college degree and the first blind person to Gradate from Florida State University. During her life she loved gardening, singing, playing the piano and delighted in surfing the Internet. She was an advocate for the visually disabled before the American Disabilities Act, a Boy Scout Den Mother & Brownie Troop Leader. She served as PTA President, Treasurer of the Tampa Garden Club, member of The Tampa Women's Club, Lifetime member of the Federation for the Blind, and a member of the Red Hat Society. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Donald M. Comes whom she agreed to marry on their first date in Dayton Beach, Fla. They later moved to Tampa, Fla. where they raised two children. Deane is survived by her son, Craig S. Comes, of Mexico, daughter and son-in-law Donna and Jay Casavant, and her devoted and only granddaughter Jordan Casavant of Brandon, Fla. She was honored and proud to also be "Grandma" to Simon Granims. She leaves behind sister-in -law Louise Johnson and many nieces and nephews that adored their Aunt Deane. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Lifepath Hospice House in Sun City Center. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to Lifepath Hospice or Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind.
