CINCOTTA, Br. Jerome, SDB, died at Tampa General Hospital on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013. He was 89 years old and had been a Catholic religious brother in the Salesians of Don Bosco for 56 years. Br. Cincotta had been residing at the Salesians' St. Philip Residence at Mary Help of Christians in Tampa. Jerome Bartholomew Cincotta was born on Nov. 5, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Joseph and Mary Cincotta. He was baptized at the family's parish church, St. Jerome's on December 2 and he was confirmed there in 1934. He attended the parish grammar school from 1929 to 1937 and Boys High School in Brooklyn from 1937 to 1942. Following his high school graduation, Jerome served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in 1946. He suffered from partial deafness because of his work as an artillery man in the war. In 1955, Jerome joined the Salesians of Don Bosco at the Don Bosco Technical High School in Paterson, N.J. He made his first profession as a Salesian brother on Sept. 8, 1957. Throughout his religious life he had jobs in various ministries serving the young. He worked at Salesiana Publishers/Don Bosco Films, was a teacher of auto mechanics and a treasurer of a school. He served many poor people in the community by providing bread, cakes and sandwiches to soup kitchens. He worked six years in Harlem, N.Y. and 24 years in Haverstraw, N.Y. He moved to Mary Help of Christians in Tampa, Florida in 2010. Br. Jerome is survived by his brother, Theodore; his sister-in-law, Carol; his brother, Robert; his sister-in-law, Jean; and his sister-in-law, Dolly Cincotta. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Wake to be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Prayers and rosary service at 8:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
