John Cordill Obituary

CORDILL, John Joseph "Jack," 90, of Brooksville, Fla., passed away February

12, 2011. He was born June 2, 1920, in Moline, Ill. In 1979, he moved to Venice, Fla., after living in Louisville, Ky., and Barrington, Ill. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. He retired in 1978 after 40 years with the International Harvester Company as a vorporate manager of quality assurance services.

Mr. Cordill was active in the American Quality Society, where he was a past chairman of its automotive division; a vice president of the National Society;

president of the Navistar International Retiree' s Club of Sarasota, Fla.; and he has hosted an All Florida Reunion Luncheon for the International Harvester retirees each spring since 1982. He was in the Navy during World War II and served aboard the battleship USS Maryland.

John was Catholic by faith and attended the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. He is survived by his forever wife and best friend of 67 years, Margaret Nell, "Margie"; daughter, Jody Hill (Steve) of Brooksville; son, John Jay (Connie) of Brooksville; grandson, Andy Cordill; and two granddaughters, Amy Martinez-Monfort and Suzanne Shwedo both of Tampa. A gathering in his memory will take place 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Brooksville Chapel of Brewer & Sons Funeral Home. Mass services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at St. Anthony' s Catholic Church, with Father Morley officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery with military honors. Brewer & Sons, (352) 796-4991.

I am one of Kathryn Casey Vicars's sons. My mother was a first cousin to Jack and quite close to him as a child. I am sorry to hear of his passing but happy to hear he lived and loved so long.
