BENTLEY, Laura Mickler, passed away on August 15, 2013. Laura was born June 30, 1930 in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Seymour C. Mickler, who was establishing the F.W. Woolworth 5 & 10 stores in South America and Casilda Ladrero Mickler. They moved to Tampa in 1933. Laura attended the Helen Hill School, The Academy of the Holy Names, Wilson Junior High School, and Henry B Plant High School. She attended & graduated from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. There she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Upon graduation she enjoyed teaching for several years at Martha Alexander Elementary School. Laura was a Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla Debutant, a sponsor of The Merrymakers Club, a member of the Spinsters Club, The H.B. Plant Museum Society, and The Chiselers of Tampa and the Town & Gown Club of South Florida, the Nepenthians Club, and the Junior League of Tampa, where she received the Lifetime Commitment Award in 2008. She was a member of the Tampa Yacht & Country Club, Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club and the University Club. Laura was married to Lee Milton Bentley for 56 years, before his death on March 4, 2011. They met when she worked one summer during college, at the First National Bank of Tampa. They enjoyed traveling all over the world on many adventures and she cherished the time they spent together. Laura is survived by her son Mickler (Shirley), her two grandsons Lee & Colin, her sister Patty Mickler Dawson, two nephews Fr. Wm. Penn Dawson, III, S. J. and Seymour C. M. Dawson. The family would like to thank the staff of Canterbury Medical Center for all of their love and care over the past year for The Queen, it is greatly appreciated.
