Lillian HOWE Obituary

HOWE, Lillian Rackliff Nute, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19, 1933 in Industry, Maine, the daughter of Hazel and Ellery Rackliff. Lillian lived in Maine most of her life. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1951. She worked at various companies in the Portland vicinity, including Portland Transmission, Harcon Iron and Steel, Songo Shoe, Portland News Company and UNUM. She retired from UNUM in 1993 and in 1996 she bought a place in Zephyrhills, Florida, to spend winters and eventually made it her year-round home. While living in Florida, she found her true love and soul mate, Wally, who brought her great happiness. He swept her off her feet and they were married in 2009. Lillian was caring and compassionate and did not hesitate to assist those in need. She was energetic, independent and lived life to its fullest. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed dancing and had a passion for sewing and crafts. She was known for her Bingo bags, a pattern which she developed and she donated many Bingo bags to charity. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, Chester, Donald and Flora Elaine; and aunts, Mildred and Irene Swenson; who played an important role in raising her. She is survived by her husband, Walter (Wally) and her two daughters, Luralee O'Connell and her husband Gary of Poland, Maine and Cindy Nye and her husband Leo of Buxton, Maine; grandchildren, Jeremiah Jacobs, Adam Jacobs, Jennifer Jacobs and Ashley Nye, all of Buxton, Maine; great-grandchildren Tyler Jacobs, Jordan French and Lilyanna Davidson Jacobs. She also had a sister, Edith Rackliff, whom she had lost touch with. Lillian will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. She will be fondly remembered and in our hearts forever. A private family service will be held in Maine at a later date.
