SUAREZ, Maria C., Maria was born Maria delCarmen Gonzalez in Havana, Cuba on September 12th, 1953. She left Cuba for the US with her sister Angie, at eight years of age, on 1-15-62 as part of the Operation Pedro Pan air lift. The two sisters arrived in Miami. They spend two weeks in an old air base in Florida City before being sent to St. Mary's School, an orphanage run by the Dominican Nuns in Newark, New Jersey. When their mother, Emma, arrived from Havana they were transferred to Saint Rose of Lima School, where she continued her schooling until 1965. The family moved to Miami then to Tampa. Maria graduated from Leto HS in 1971 and then attended HCC. She worked for GTE then Vigo Imp. Co. until she became ill in July of 2013. Maria and Nelson Suarez were married in 1975 and she gave birth to twins, Christina and Christopher in 1977. Maria was very spiritual and kept the Lord in her heart always. She loved shopping, taking cruises and vacationing on Anna Maria Island. A great cook, she loved cooking for her entire family on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Always a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she was happiest when surrounded by her family. Maria is survived by her husband of 38 years, Nelson Suarez, her children Christina and Christopher, her sister, Angelina Gonzalez. She leaves behind two grandchildren Gianna and Jake Suarez, her niece, Angel Martinez, nephew, Greg Beeman, aunt, Raquel Saenz, cousin, Eddy Escarpanter. Maria passed away while with her family on March 8th, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at Terrace Community Church, 9620 Davis Rd. Tampa, FL 33637 on Sun.3-16-14, at 4:00pm.
