McPHERSON, Mary Humphrey, 83 of Amity, Oregon and Tampa, passed away on February 17, 2013 in Amity, Oregon. Mary was born in Tampa, Fla. on June 22, 1929 to the late Allan R. Humphrey, Sr. and Frances Blazer Humphrey. She was predeceased by her husband, Dwight L. McPherson; brothers, Allan R. Jr. , Charles, Harry and Michael Humphrey. Surviving are her daughter, Diane Moon (Donald); granddaughter, Leslie Hayward (George); grandson, Justin Moon; brothers, Rev. Robert Sr. (Donna), Lloyd Sr. (Mildred), Philip Sr. (Mary), Jerry (Karen), and Dr. Donald (Mary) Humphrey. Also, many nieces and nephews, and many great-nephews and nieces. Mary graduated from Charlotte High School, Punta Gorda, Fla., 1947 and attended the University of Tampa. She earned a B.A. 1971 in Education from Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio. She taught school for 13 years in Ashtabula, Ohio, where she received the "Teacher of the Year" award for Ohio. She was a very active member of the community in Ashtabula Harbor. The family moved to Tampa in 1971 where she continued to teach and became a reading specialist in various schools throughout Hillsborough County for 23 years. She was a long time member and active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an International Honorary Society of Women Educators. She was a resident of the Marina Club of Tampa, where she was the Social Director for many years. She traveled to many countries and throughout the United States with her friends from the Marina Club and others. She was a member of the Presbyterian faith. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Garden of Memories Chapel, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa. A visitation will be at 10:00 a.m.
